The
Trouble With Emily Dickinson
In today’s literary
market, there’s a severe lack of quality young adult books with
positive and realistic themes for GLBT youth. Lyndsey
D’Arcangelo, who grew up reading the likes of Judy Blume, saw
that need and crafted a story that GLBT teens, college students
and young professionals could easily relate to. The Trouble
with Emily Dickinson has the potential to appeal to anyone
and everyone who’s ever fallen in love with someone they never
expected to. Much like the classic theme of Shakespeare’s
Romeo & Juliet, this novel centers on an innocent connection
between two teens from two very different worlds. It’s a story
chock full of the kinds of life lessons, humor, sadness,
choices, love and witty conversations that GLBT teens, and teens
in general, face on a daily basis. Using the poetry and
brilliance of Emily Dickinson, this novel not only presses the
importance of believing in and being true to oneself, but it
also introduces a brand new generation to one of the most
celebrated poets of all time. With lovable, unique and
captivating characters, The Trouble with Emily Dickinson
is a mesmerizing novel that all young adults are sure to enjoy.
